In essence: Achilles Georghiou lives for music. Since 1998, it’s been his sole occupation.
.
In the beginning: as a baby in the crib, Achilles had his first encounter with a rumbling bass guitar. He screamed and danced with joy. All of the musicians in his family felt pride. They knew his life would never be the same.
In adolescence: his guitar lessons began with guitar virtuoso
Don Manzo. Achilles performed as a singer at
Carnegie Hall, a drummer in the
high school band, a singer/guitarist in the heavy metal band
The Murder and the Harlot, and a drummer in the noise group
The Lucky Constrictors. His varied skills grew increasingly refined and engaged by many local collaborators. Eventually, he began taking on his own students. Each diverse musical project gave him the invaluable perspective and drive to thunder forward.
In college: he entered uncharted territory as a Music Education major, intensively studying classical guitar under
Gabriel Handy at
William Paterson University. In 2006, he joined
DTM Productions and learned how to satisfy large crowds who were jonesing to dance. He continued teaching local kids how to play guitar with his monk-level patience and steadfast positivity.
In recent times: when they aren’t DJ extraordinaires, Achilles and DTM’s owner Dan play in the stellar rock cover band
DTM Band.
Ackerman’s Music School is the stomping ground where Achilles energetically teaches guitar, spreading encouraging techniques and effective mentorship across Northern NJ. Word of his skills has led to his participation in the
Music for Life program, involving his teaching a weekly guitar class at
Our Lady of the Visitation Academy. He continues to attend college part-time and will soon release recordings from his newest project The Home Brew String Crew.
